Is psychotherapy covered by OHIP?
Unfortunately, at this time, therapy provided by a registered psychotherapist (RP) is not covered by OHIP.
However, as a registered psychotherapist in Ontario I am an authorized medical practitioner. The Canada Revenue Agency deems psychotherapy from an RP as a deductible medical expense.
Do you take insurance? Will my benefits cover my therapy?
Most insurance and employee benefits plans will cover psychotherapy with a registered psychotherapist. Please, consult with your insurer to confirm your coverage. I will provide you with a detailed receipt, after payment, that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
What can I expect in my first session with you?
You can expect me to listen to your concerns non-judgmentally. I will ask you questions about yourself, your life, and any symptoms that you may have been experiencing. Together we'll establish goals for therapy.
How long is a session? How many sessions will I need?
A standard therapy session is 50 minutes in length and scheduled weekly or bi-weekly. Each person’s situation is unique, therefore the length of therapy depends on the presenting issue.
Do I need a referral from my doctor to see you?
You do not require a referral.
Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
More and more therapist are moving their practice online because virtual therapy is convenient, time-saving and accessible. Research indicates that it is just as effective as in-person therapy for various mental health conditions.
